Limited Edition Watercolor and Etching
Misty Morning was inspired by the foggy mornings in Camden's harbor, a charming town on the coast of Maine. On the right side of the artwork, the long pier extends into the hazy distance; and across the marina, a handful of yachts are barely visible through the fog. A two-masted sailboat with blue trim is docked in the foreground with an American flag at its stern, gently waving in the breeze. The pier-side market and lobster restaurant on the wharf sells fresh seafood from New England's cold waters. In summer, the harbor teems with boats, from recreational sailboats and yachts to commercial fishing vessels; but in the early morning, the docks and piers have relaxed, subdued energy, something I aspired to capture in etching and painting Misty Morning.
Misty Morning is a limited edition watercolor and etching. It was created by drawing with a needle on a copper plate coated with an acid-resistant ground, thus exposing copper. Using line etching and aquatint techniques, The copper plate is then etched with acid. After hand inking and wiping, an etching press embosses the image into a damp paper sheet. Every print of Misty Morning is individually inked, printed, and when dry, hand-painted with watercolor.
