Frequently Asked Questions
I am frequently asked about the value of an (older) etching or drypoint engraving - something not shown on my website. If a conservative estimate of value is sufficient for your needs (e.g. for insurance purposes), a method of valuation is to value the older etching at the current retail price of an etching of similar size (based on the size of the copper plate used.) Your artwork is most likely matted and framed, so you would have to evaluate that cost, which could vary greatly.
If, however, you are interested in the current market value for a particular piece, you should seek the services of a professional art appraiser.
Here is a listing of my frequently used copper plate sizes and the corresponding retail price of current work:
2.5" x 4" plate - $ 55.00 3.5" x 5.5" plate - $95.00
4" x 6" plate - $110.00 5" x 7" plate - $135.00
4" x 10" plate - $150.00 5" x 8" plate - $150.00
6" x 9" plate - $170.00 7" x 7" plate - $170.00
8" x 12" plate - $240.00 10" x 16" plate - $340.00
9" x 18" plate - $340.00 12" x 18" plate - $395.00
12"x 24" plate - $480.00 15" x 21" plate - $485.00
15" x 15" plate - $395.00 18"x 26" plate - $550.00
16" x 25" plate - $550.00
NOTE: The copper plates are beveled to prevent the sharp edges from cutting the felt blankets during printing. This reduces the size of the plate up to 1/4 inch each dimension. In addition, the wet etching paper will shrink slightly when drying. The print of your etching might not exactly match the sizes listed here, but you will find a size that is very close.
"After over 45 years of creating art, I am fortunate to say I've enjoyed creating many etchings, drypoint engravings, watercolors and oil paintings. Many editions have sold out long ago. The artwork shown on this website includes only currently available pieces".
If you have an older etching or drypoint engraving, that is not included on this website, perhaps you will find the following information useful:
* In "the early years", I did not keep detailed records of each piece of artwork. The earlies etchings and drypoint engraving wwere not titled.
*I have used the same title for two or three different images that are of different sizes. For instance, you may have an etching titled "Winter Moon" but can't find it on my site. In that case, yours is most likely sold out, "out of print" and is a totally different scene, on a different size copper plate.
*The majority of my etchings are based on locations in New England, primarily Maine and Massachusetts, the two states in the North East where I resided the longest.
*Most of my images are of actual places. Some are the result of a combination of features of different locations and my imagination. And, because detailed records were not kept 40+ years ago, there are a few etchings for which I may not recall the location.
