Created in the spring of 1976, "The Woodpile" is a combination of hard ground line etching, soft ground etching, and water color. We were living in Ashby, MA at the time I did this etching and was inspired by this scene in late winter near the center of town. I liked the sense warm light in the early morning and wanted to experiment in getting a softer look for the shadows on the clapboards by using a soft ground technique. The edtion was 200 prints but I stopped printing it after 159 were completed.
