This is a line etching printed in black ink, with an aquatint plate which was inked with blue etching ink. In additon to the colored plate there is hand watercoloring. The plate size is 10"x16" and this print is number 91/200. Numbered, titled and signed in pencil. Created around 1979-1981, a time when I was experimenting with colored aquatint plates.
The inspiration for this etching was the first day it snowed late fall one year. This shows the side view of our 150 year old barn (a mile or two from the center of Ashby, MA). The barn was attached to the house by an ell, giving us protection while getting to the house from the barn where we parked our car in winter. The pear tree (on the left side of the image) yielded fruit and I remember making and canning pear chutney in the fall.
I did an etching of a different view of our barn and house, and a painting of a similar scene called "Winter Day" which can be found at the bottom of the "Giclee Print" page.
